BUSINESS START UP SCHEME WELCOMED
BY YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AND DRAGONS DEN WINNER
PART 2...THE FINAL INSTALMENT
“For any venture to be a success it needs our young business men and women, most of whom will probably have no previous experience in running a company, to be able to seek support and guidance as they look to build solid foundations and this is where the work of Start-Up Britain is crucial.”
Around 270,000 new businesses are formed in the UK every year. Under Start-Up Britain new firms can seek freelancers on contractor payroll, allowing flexibility, rather than taking on permanent staff.
As part of the scheme entrepreneurs receive expert support and advice worth £1,500. The scheme will extend into schools and universities as it seeks out the business men and women of the future.
Start-Up Britain has the backing of leading companies including Virgin Media, Microsoft, BlackBerry and Barclays.
Prime Minister David Cameron and the Confederation of Business Industry (CBI ) have also publicly backed the scheme.
Adam said: “In principle it is an excellent venture and just what Britain needs to get the economy going again. Managed in the right way it will help tens if not hundreds of thousands of aspiring business men and women get their businesses off the ground.
“I know from my own experience a scheme such as Start-Up Britain would have greatly benefited me. Thankfully Proppa is financially very healthy now but a scheme such as this could have prevented me from making a few mistakes along the way, saved me from sleepless nights and shown me a more direct route to where I wanted to take the company.”
Adam was just 26 years old when he launched Proppa five years ago. In a short space of time Proppa has grown to become the UK ’s leading online vehicle accessories retailer.
With a 25-strong workforce the company today enjoys a £3.5 million turnover and profits in the region of £500,000. Based in Pershore, Worcestershire, Proppa operates out of a 25,000 sq ft warehouse.
